Trashy Tables was born out of a simple, depressing realisation: we're drowning in single-use plastic, everyone agrees it's a disaster, and yet the stuff keeps piling up.
THE PLASTIC CRISIS IN NUMBERS
400+ million tonnes of plastic produced globally every year — around 40% designed to be used once and thrown away
Only 9% of all plastic ever produced has been recycled — the rest sits in landfills, gets incinerated, or leaks into the environment
An estimated 8 million metric tonnes end up in our oceans every year, killing over 100,000 marine mammals and a million seabirds annually
At current rates, there could be more plastic than fish in the ocean by 2050
We campaign actively against single-use plastics. But while the world drags its feet on banning them outright, we decided to put the waste to work. By combining shredded single-use plastics with concrete, we create durable, weatherproof tables that locks plastic out of landfills and oceans and into something you can actually use.
It's not a solution to the crisis. Ending single-use plastic is the solution. But until that happens, we'd rather your old packaging was holding your drink than choking a turtle.
